One of the benefits of having a lot of platonic male friends is that you get insight as to how men tick, and what turns them off [we already know what turns them on]. One of the most griped about complaints across the board is diarrhea of the mouth. Not necessarily a woman that talks a lot [although it is good to come up for air once in a while], but one that is constantly talking about her ex, or gives you the complete history of all of her relationships for the past 10 years, why they didn't work out, how insecure she was, and what losers they were because they didn't recognize a good thing; all on the first date. According to the fellas, it's a red flag [drama much?]; and a second date may or may not happen.
Do any of you think there is such a thing as revealing too much too soon? I don't know about you, but I don't want to hear about your knife toting ex girlfriend, her down-for-whatever-friends, and the car keying incident one hour into our first date [this is purely hypothetical]. Don't get me wrong, honesty is the best policy, but I don't think a first date is a time where you lay those cards out on the table. Curious on hearing your thoughts about it....
This is another set of pics taken by Michael Britton of His Hers Chicago. I scored this horse skirt at the Boogie Den last weekend, and I am absolutely in love with it. It's girly, ruffle-y, and quirky at the same time!

Stillness is The Move
I found this really cool dress in H&M for only $25 dollars. It was hanging in some random area, and I snagged it immediately. I love Maxi Dresses because it gives you instant glam with little effort. This dress is a bit on the sheer side; so I threw on some black tights underneath, and all was well.
Can I also tell all of you that I have been sleeping on Castor Oil? Wow. I made a mixture of 1part Camellia Oil to 3parts Castor Oil [with three drops of rosemary oil] and put it in a flip top bottle. I spray my hair lightly with water daily, then seal with the Castor Oil mix and my hair has never been softer.
So far nothing has worked better than my lil ole water and Castor Oil routine. It was even soft after shampooing w/a clarifying shampoo [which is rare for me], so I skipped the moisture shampoo follow up that I normally do.
If you are having trouble finding Camellia Oil you can buy it here [it's where I get it from].
To all of you that are going through a major hair drought, try that mixture and see how it fairs! Make sure you spray your hair with Spring Water [I find it makes my hair much softer than using tap or distilled] if you can!

Knocks Me Off My Feet
I see us in the park //
Strolling the summer days of imaginings in my head //
And words from our hearts //
Told only to the wind felt even without being said //
I don't want to bore you with my trouble //
But there's somethin' bout your love //
That makes me weak and //
Knocks me off my feet //
So this is the camisole, and leather skirt that I thrifted [you may recall seeing the pics in this post] this past weekend. -

There is one thing I noticed after starting this blog, and that is the amount of married women that comment on my posts. Oddly enough; the readers on my blog comprise most [if not all] of the married women I know. - I started to wonder if living in the suburbs breeds more of a monogamous attitude vs city living.
I have a dear friend who is a single mother of two, and a few years ago she uprooted her family and moved to a small city in Texas. One of the motivating factors was her urge to settle down and get married. She felt that she would be single as long as she stayed and L.A, so on a whim, she left. Six months later that very same friend met her future husband. And so the story goes..they lived happily ever after.
What is it about those smaller cities? Is there more pressure to fall in line, have children and get married? Is it that there is less to do, less opportunities, less "options"? I am interested on hearing your thoughts on this.

I Love To Leave The Interpretation of My Music Up To The Listener. It's Fun To See What They'll Say It Is - Erykah Badu
That was a pretty eventful post yesterday! I really enjoyed reading all of the comments, and I appreciate everyone's point of view. I think this is a video you either hate or love, but it's always good to hear other people's perspectives. I love a good debate, and there were some awesome points mentioned.
Thank you to Seygra20 for pointing out that this video was inspired by Matt & Kim's Lesson's Learned [you know I googled the heck out of that when I got home..lol]. There is a debate going on right now [in the comments on youtube] comparing the two vids, and if Erykah received more flack.. And thank you to Indigo who answered Negesti7's question; Group Think was what came out of Erykah's mouth when she fell to the ground.
In a nutshell [and according to this source] Group Think can be pretty much summed up as:
A type of thought exhibited by group members who try to minimize conflict and reach consensus without critically testing, analyzing, and evaluating ideas. Individual creativity, uniqueness, and independent thinking are lost in the pursuit of group cohesiveness, as are the advantages of reasonable balance in choice and thought that might normally be obtained by making decisions as a group.I remember watching this video in my psychology class, which talked about the group think phenomenon. Pretty interesting stuff. Do any of you agree with the group think theory?
During groupthink, members of the group avoid promoting viewpoints outside the comfort zone of consensus thinking. A variety of motives for this may exist such as a desire to avoid being seen as foolish, or a desire to avoid embarrassing or angering other members of the group. Groupthink may cause groups to make hasty, irrational decisions, where individual doubts are set aside, for fear of upsetting the group’s balance. The term is frequently used pejoratively, with hindsight.

You May Say That I'm a Dreamer; But I'm Not The Only One
It was amazing weather this past weekend. Almost picturesque. It's hard to believe that in just 3 days we will have "rain/thunder" headed our way.
Weekends are never long enough. I always feel like I need an extra day to actually rest. - I can't complain though, this weekend was actually better than the last few. My creative juices were flowing, and I decided to spend my weekend doing whatever came to mind. I filmed some hair videos, watched shorts on Vimeo, cooked/baked, made lethal Margaritas, dabbled in stop motion photography, and short film concepts.

Those Who Danced Were Thought to Be Quite Insane By Those Who Could Not Hear The Music - Angela Monet
As you can tell...I love quotes. One of my favorite quotes is one by Oscar Wilde; he states, To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all. -
So I have a question ladies [and gents], what's the first thing that comes to mind when you hear living, existing & surviving? I would love to hear your thoughts on that. Doesn't have to be lengthy, preferably the first thought that enters your mind.
I'll tell you mine..
Living: Doing what you love. Living in the moment. No restraints. Happy.
Existing: Rules. Boundaries. Restraint. Stagnant.
Surviving: Perseverance. Exhausted. Adversity. Hardships.

Do You Know Where You're Going To; Do you Like the Things That Life is Showing You
Here lately I have been reading all of the things said about Gabourey Sidebe, and it really hurts my heart. People can really be cruel. I can only imagine what it would feel like to come that far, only to get panned not because of your lack of talent; but your physical appearance. While I agree that she should lose some weight [strictly for health reasons], I don't think she should conform to the "stick thin" image that most of the Hollywood execs are shoving down our throats these days.
I started to wonder, if she had to do it all again would she? I was teased a lot as a child, and some days it was unbearable. Being a tall, lanky kid with bucked teeth, and glasses really didn't help me climb the social ladder in school. In fact, I became somewhat of an introvert. So I can definitely empathize with Gabourey. More importantly, I respect her.
She wears a wig; so what, she wears powder blue Uggs with a checkered jacket; who cares. Newsflash! everyone has their days. Some more than others, and that should be ok. In the grand scheme of things, is it really that important?
Now don't get me wrong, I love looking my best. Honestly, I feel good when I look good. And if I ever held a position which meant I was to be a regular in the public-eye, I may even try a little more than I normally do. However, I couldn't, and I wouldn't be "on" all the time. Who would I be living for if I did that? Chasing the approval of everyone will turn you into a maniac. Ask the many celebs that are hooked on prescription drugs.
Sorry for my long-winded rant. -
I am wearing an outfit from Forever 21. The cotton yellow dress I got last summer. The black and white wrap shirt I got a few weeks ago for $2.99 during their blowout of a sale. My ring, and bracelets were also from Forever. - My purse I scored for about $5 downtown in the fashion district. - My boots are Michael Kors.
